Don't Judge Too Soon!

Don't Judge Too Soon!

We must not judge people based on one season, they must have roughed it out over different seasons for us to know their true value. It is important for an individual to have passed through Good & Difficult phases in life.

I heard this story about a father wanting to tell his four children something instead he decided to show.

He sent for his eldest son and told him to visit the palm tree which was far off from his village. The son set off on his journey & successfully completed the task. The man sent his other sons on the same journey one by one keeping a gap of few months.

After each son had visited the same palm tree, father asked each one of them as to what they saw. One by one all the four sons told him what they saw. All of them had a different version of what they saw, while one said he saw the dried palm tree while the other said he saw the budding flowers on the tree. The third son said he saw the fruits on the palm tree & the fourth saw the tree in full bloom.

The father asked them as to what did they understood from the exercise. The sons were unable to comprehend the meaning of the question.

The wise father explained that what each one of them saw was the palm tree in various seasons hence the dryness, budding, flowering & blooming etc. Each of the sons had seen the tree in different seasons & had commented on the worthiness of the tree. To understand the true worthiness of the palm tree, one needs to have the acumen & patience to see through all seasons.

The father used this analogy to relate to people. We must not judge people based on one season, they must have roughed it out over different seasons for us to know their true value.

It is important for an individual to have passed through Good & Difficult phases in life for us to pass a judgement on him/her. Similarly in the workplace setting, "Experience" is an invaluable asset that cannot be replaced with youth.

I agree to an extent. It depends from situation to situation. In a set up like official interview, one has to form a judgement basis limited conversation and data presented. And basis such judgement decision will be taken. Judgement could go wrong, but is there's any alternative ?
